Getting My Air Canada Hate On

November 11th, 2010 | by Omar

So I was heading to a mobile health conference (mHealth Summit) this past Sunday being hosted in Washington DC. Sunday morning I was informed that my passport was going to expire two days into my five day trip. I called the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) and asked if it would be possible for me to get back into Canada without a valid passport. They stated that as long as I have my birth certificate with me it would be no problem. However, they informed me that getting into the USA might be an issue because they require everyone to have a valid passport for the duration of their stay in the US. So I went and talked to the US Customs officials at the airport. After half-an-hour they granted me an exception that would allow me to stay in the US with an expired passport. I got on my United Airlines flight without issue.

A son’s love for his father

May 3rd, 2010 | by Omar

My father passed away just over 2 weeks ago after a year and a half battle with cancer. I saw my strong and very independent father have what he prided himself with most ripped away from him...that being his independence. But Allah did not take away his strength (though he could have if He had chosen to). My father was not necessarily the most religious man and before he got sick I truly worried for him. However, after seeing the pain and suffering that he faced over the last year and a half I feel at ease that Allah's blessings for how my dad withstood the hardship with strength and grace will absolve him of any and all misdeeds he may have performed or things he may have not partook in.
